Hey fellow trail lovers. We finally have a backpacking group that grew from the Tri-State Hiking Club. When I joined them 1.5 yrs ago we only had 20 members. Since then I've met a few backpackers and mentioned the backpacking joys to recruit more:-D
Sawtooths, Holy Cross, Tre Cime, Mt Baker, a lil AT (too boring), OH & KY. Answering this question after their first backpacking trip: What did you learn about yourself & your tripmates? Strongly suggest we all learn basic Wilderness medicine w/first aid kits, cuz we will need it. It's only a matter of when. Even blisters!
Bob Marshall (Chinese Wall! Boulders the size of mansions! WWWOWWW!), Torres Del Paine (Incre'ible "F" route! LOL), Why not Bhutan & NZ? What's on your "backpack" list?
This would be a good one for another trip. I'd like to hear yours in person by the fire too!
I'll save this one for a fireside chat on one of our trips.
Food for a 10 day adventure with my best friend: $50; #50 pack & gear for a 70 mile journey: $100; Relishing the Continental Divide view where Lewis & Clark crossed? Priceless!
Good place to learn about backpacking

Also, for a great kayaking/hiking
trip sign up with a local kayak rental/tour group and paddle on the Colorado River from the base of Hoover Dam to Willow Beach. Flat water, good flow with a couple nice hikes along the way. The scenery is breathtaking and if you are good at spotting wildlife, you might see big horn sheep and eagles. If open water is more your thing, paddle Lake Mead, starting and ending at Hemingway Harbor. You can paddle from there to the back of the dam, which is 8 mile RT.
Danny: From October to March the migratory birds are in abundance at all the birding sites you found on the Audubon site, as well as the "local" birds. A good place to see the locals is the Springs Preserve on Valley View, just south of the I-95. The Audubon society conducts bird walks at the Springs Preserve, so check their calendar to see if one will be held while you are in Vegas. If they aren't, take your birding glasses and go yourself. It is worth the price of admission.
welcome back.
Hi Danny, Welcome to the group and I hope to meet you out on the water soon.
Larry
Welcome Aboard! I'm hoping this little group can be friendly, fun, and enjoyable. No big-deal stuff, just fine folks having a good time out in nature.
I am particularly interested in changing the name of this group..."Liquid
" sounds a bit overbearing and a copy-cat from the fine folks up in Columbus.
So, I'm looking for ideas...let me know.
Tom
Where did you live in Europe? My son studied in Europe a couple years and I went to visit him many times. Loved hiking in the Alps.
DAnny, what is "auto-schwimmba
d"? I am sure we can clarify tomorrow. :-)
I would also be willing to start from Northside if that is agreeable with others.
Hey Danny, I would like to do the Reds Ride/Game on Sunday but it looks like there are no participants. I would hate to buy a ticket and then be the only one attending. Will you still lead the group if there are only 2 of us?
Thanks for your note Danny - not sure if we met but will probably meet on a future paddling trip.
