"Happiness only real when shared."
ZERO until April 2008 when I hiked 237 miles of the AT. It doesn't take a super hero or a rocket scientist. I did a lot of research and I figured lots of stuff out on my own - but I feel like I could pretty much handle anything now.
The last half of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was amazing. There were several times when my eyes teared up and I got choked up at the incredible beauty and realized how lucky I was to be out there.
Actually happened off the trail (AT) at a locals bar in Franklin, NC. I was with Colonel Chaco and Patience (who was deaf). We walked into the bar late and a lady did EVERYTHING she could to try to take Patience home - incl. attempted lap dances!
Honestly, nothing yet - I'm saving this opportunity to share with my new friends in the Backpacking Meetup Group!
237.3 miles / 19 days (including one zero day) on the Appalachian Trail starting at the southern terminus at Springer Mountain to Standing Bear Farm Hostel just north of Interstate 40 outside of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Section Hike planned this year?
I wish I could get my kids backpacking. You should join us at thetrailhead.ni
ng.com!
Mike, Thanks for the greeting. I tried viewing your journal but the link wasn't valid. No big deal. I do have a coule question shtat maybe you could give me some adviece on though... I'm still experimenting on what foods to take and how to package them for the trip. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Yo Bourbon: It was cool to hear you have a ton of miles on your boots. I'd like to hear some intel on pack acquisitions. Aiming to suit up and venture out this summer. ~Aerosmith PS: I've been a guitar player 38 years (however, skill augmentation plateaued after year 10, may atrophy if I don't do something SOON). Haven't demo'd Hero yet, but if your boyz want to learn the instrument and you need start up tips givahollar.
Hey! I just hiked part of that section last October. I started at Springer and got off just where the last forest service road cuts off befor the trail turns east and south to pick up a big mountain (Standing Indian???) You're in for a treat! (BTW, skip ENOTA, "Dove" gouged me pretty badly. I'd have been better off at a hotel in Hiawassee.) But enough about me! ;-) Welcome to the club. We have several AT hikers. We should work something out. Hope to see you at our meeting on the 24th!
Hey! I started a Backpacking Meetup Group. Our first organizational meeting is March 24. Think by next week we can ride motorcycles to it? ;-) It's at Borders in Tri-County at 7:00.

Hey Mike,
Thanks for the shout, I really appreciate it!
I look forward to meeting you on the next hike!
Sounds Great. I'm looking forward to it. But so much darn stuff keeps getting in the way of my hobbies! Sometimes I wish I were less responsible....
