Haven't had much time for backpacking trips for quite a while. I am hoping to change that this next year.
I grew up in Arizona, hiking and camping. Did a fair bit of such things in numerous locations in the west, and in several other countries in the 1980 s. During the last few years I have been doing a number of day hikes, but no real backpacking.
Not sure I could name a favorite. Trips into the Chricahuas, the Wasatch range, the Grand Canyon, The Painted Desert, all stand out. Interesting, though not favorite, have included, Cambodia, Tibet, Afghanistan, Somalia, Congo, Peru, and others.
Losing my way when I shouldn't have through simple oversight.
Various episodes of forgetting to bring important things.
Grand Canyon trip - a bit over two weeks

Hi Joe.
It was good getting to meet you today. It's always nice to talk to another history lover.
The book I was telling you about was Great Power Diplomacy, 1814-1914 by Norman Rich. If you would be interested, I have started a History Enthusiasts group on LinkedIn.com. I hope the rest of the hike was good.
All the best,
R
